Welcome to the Spanish Writing Center at Montclair State University where we are committed to supporting students, faculty, admins and other users in their journey to improve their Spanish writing skills. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced writer, our center provides personalized assistance with a wide range of writing projects, from academic papers to creative pieces. Our dedicated team of assistants, all proficient in Spanish, is here to help you enhance your grammar, vocabulary, and overall expression, ensuring that you communicate your ideas clearly and effectively in Spanish.

Please note: The Spanish Writing Center offers assistance with writing at all levels, but it is not a tutoring service for students who are just starting to learn vocabulary and basic structures. For beginner-level help, please contact CAST.

Our Services

One-on-One Consultation: Receive personalized feedback and guidance on your Spanish writing, including grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, and overall clarity.

Essay Review and Feedback: Detailed feedback on drafts of essays, research papers, and creative writing projects, with suggestions for improvement in clarity, organization, and fluency.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR TUTOR:

During the appointment, the tutor will:

  • Offer one-on-one writing consultations for students at any stage of the writing process.
  • Clarify and answer specific grammar questions.
  • Provide suggestions for revising or improving the structure of your essay.
  • Discuss how word choice, grammar, and sentence structure may impact clarity.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments, if needed, for continued revisions.

However, the tutor will not:

  • Proofread your paper.
  • Assist with content development.
  • Correct assignments
  • Write content for you
  • Influence or suggest solutions.
Workshops and Writing Clinics

Join our group workshops designed to focus on specific aspects of Spanish writing, including grammar, academic style, and creative writing techniques. These workshops will be held online each month during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Led by highly specialized Spanish instructors and writing experts, the workshops are one hour long, live, and fully interactive, ensuring a high-impact learning experience.

Duration of the workshops: 
• 60 minutes

Structure of the workshops:
• 20 minutes of explanations
• 20 minutes practices
• 20 minutes – Revisions and Q&A

Booking Appointments

Please remember this is NOT a tutoring center for beginner Spanish students.

If you are interested in extra help with your assignments in Spanish 101 or 102  we recommend that you make an appointment with the Center for Academic Success & Tutoring through Navigate!

Appointments should be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance.

Policies and Expectations
  • Code of conduct: A student will be found responsible for discriminatory harassment, intimidation or bullying who engages in Harassment conduct described above as “harassment/ intimidation/bullying” which the student directs at a specific group or individual, based upon race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, age, marital status, affectional or sexual orientation, familial status, disability, nationality, sex, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected from discrimination by the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, N.J.S.A. 10:5-4.If a student is found being disrespectful, consultants or tutors have the right to refuse service or cancel a session early. That student will be removed from attending the consultations and will be reported to Student Affairs.
  • Canceling Appointments: If you are sick or know you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please contact clase@montclair.edu as soon as possible.
  • Missed appointments: If you have not notified the person you are scheduled with or emailed clase@montclair.edu about missing your appointment, you will be marked as absent for that session. After three missed sessions, you will no longer be able to book future appointments. To schedule again, you will need to contact clase@montclair.edu.
