New Jersey’s Department of State has made voting even easier, by offering three ways to vote: Early voting, On Election day and Mail in ballot.

Mail-In Ballots

Registered voters can apply for a vote-by-mail ballot by following the instructions found at vote.nj.gov or contacting their County Clerk.

Then, VOTE and RETURN your ballot one of the following ways…

Mail: Your vote-by-mail ballot MUST be postmarked on or before 8 p.m. on Election Day and be received by your county’s Board of Elections on or before the sixth day after the close of the polls.

Secure Ballot Drop Box: Place your vote-by-mail ballot in one of your county’s secure ballot drop boxes by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Drop box locations can be found at vote.nj.gov.

Board of Elections Office: Deliver your vote-by-mail ballot in person to your county’s Board of Elections Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. County Election Officials’ contact information can be found at vote.nj.gov.

In Person Early Voting

This new option enables all registered voters to cast their ballot in person, using a voting machine, during in-person early voting period prior to Election Day. You can now choose to vote, in person, when it’s most convenient for your schedule.

No matter where you live in the county, you can vote your specific ballot at any of your county’s designated in-person early voting locations. Find your county’s locations at vote.nj.gov.

In-Person Early Voting for both the Primary Election and the General Election. Early voting locations will be open from at least 10 am to 8 pm on Mondays through Saturdays, and from at least 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. No appointment is necessary. Accommodations will be made for voters with disabilities.

Vote in person at your polling place, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.

You can register at your home address (typically a parent’s address) or at your on-campus or off-campus address. Students who register at home will need to request a mail-in ballot if they cannot or do not plan to return home to vote. If you register with your on-campus address, you will vote in the polling location associated with your dorm address. Off-campus students will vote at a polling site near their residence.

Out-of-state students can register using their Montclair State University address or by requesting an absentee or mail-in ballot. Registering locally will not impact your residency status for tuition purposes or impact your federal financial aid. You must be 18 in order to vote, but if you are 16 or 17 you can submit your voter registration form and it will become active once you turn 18.

You can change your registration at any time by changing your voter registration information with the state you have residency in (note Key Dates ). You can only be registered in one location.
