Dr. Teresa Fiore (Inserra Endowed Chair in Italian and Italian American Studies) was interviewed on Italian national TV (RAI Italia channel) for the Dec. 13, 2021 episode of L’Italia con voi. Presented by journalist Maria Cuffaro, the program offers a mix of news, information, and entertainment for a targeted audience of Italian expats around the world (see description in Italian in the image below, featuring the presenter Maria Cuffaro).
The Dec. 13 episode opened up with a focus on Italian emigration to the U.S.: the interview revolved around historical as well as contemporary emigration, and the motivations behind leaving Italy to move to “America,” one of the main destinations for Italians of yesterday and today, alike. Dr. Fiore framed her interventions around the research conducted in her book Pre-Occupied Spaces: Remapping Italy’s Transnational Migrations and Colonial Legacies (Fordham UP, 2017). The interview was complemented by a conversation with videomaker and photographer Michele Petruzziello who commented on his series of pictures entitled “Good Bye, My Love” about recent immigrants in New York whose experiences reverberate past forms or relocation to the city. Dr. Fiore invited Michele Petruzziello to Montclair State University as part of the Inserra calendar of cultural program in 2016 (see event Italians in America: Recent Documentaries and Photographs here).
