Jason Williams Receives New Scholar Award from the American Society of Criminology

Jason M. Williams, assistant professor in the Department of Justice Studies, received the New Scholar Award at the American Society of Criminology conference this year. The American Society of Criminology is an international organization whose members pursue scholarly, scientific, and professional knowledge concerning the measurement, etiology, consequences, prevention, control, and treatment of crime and delinquency.
Williams is an activist scholar and his research focuses on critical policing, race, social control, and criminal justice policy. He is currently conducting on-the-ground critical ethnographic research in Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore, Maryland following the deaths of Michael Brown and Freddie Gray.
