Lucy McDiarmid, Marie Frazee-Baldassarre Professor of English, has just published a new book titled The Vibrant House: Irish Writing and Domestic Space. The book was co-edited by McDiarmid and Rhona Richman Kenneally, professor at Concordia University, and has been published by Four Courts Press.
The Vibrant House gathers a collection of creative memoirs and scholarly essays exploring the relation between home as metaphor and home as physical and spatial entity. Many contributors to the collection have given lectures or poetry readings in the Marie Frazee-Baldassarre series at Montclair State; these include Angela Bourke, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, Colette Bryce, Theo Dorgan, Vona Groarke, Nicholas Grene, Rhona Richman Kenneally, and Tony Tracy. McDiarmid’s essay “Hairpins Among the Rifles: The Domestic Site in Women’s Accounts of 1916” is also included in the collection.
Lucy McDiarmid is the author or editor of eight books, including most At Home in the Revolution: What Women Said and Did in 1916 and Poets and the Peacock Dinner: The Literary History of a Meal. She teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the English Department.
