Monika Elbert, professor in the Department of English, has co-edited a new collection of essays published by Routledge. Anglo-American Travelers and the Hotel Experience in Nineteenth-Century Literature examines the representation of the hotel experience in fiction, diaries, and periodicals, shedding new light on the 19th-century travel writing.
Elbert teaches classes in 19th-century literature in the undergraduate and graduate programs. She has authored and edited many books on American Romanticism, American Gothic literature, and the 19th-century American children’s literature. She has published extensively on Nathaniel Hawthorne, Margaret Fuller and Sarah Orne Jewett.
