Intersections: A Thematic Reader for Writers, authored by Emily Isaacs and Catherine Keohane, has just been published by Bedford/St. Martin’s, a division of Macmillan that has long been a leader in composition textbook publishing. Isaacs and Keohane, who have taught writing to Montclair State University first-year students for many years, wrote this book to support frustrated, reluctant, and struggling writers, or students whom other textbooks typically offers skills and drills along with uninspiring topics for writing.

Built around readings culled from a diverse group of writers addressing debatable topics that students care deeply about, Intersections offers adaptive and individualized academic reading and writing instruction to support students without overwhelming them. Intersections has eight chapters of readings with themes like Sports in American Society, Disabilities, and Immigration that keep students interested and spark ideas for their writing. The book also features the authors’ innovative modular Toolkits that cover key writing and reading skills such as annotating, organization, peer review, MLA documentation, and mechanics.
