DIGITAL HUMANITIES SUMMER GRANTS

We have three general announcements scheduled, including this one. There will be the ONLY general notices that go out to the entire college. The CDH will be holding several events leading up to the March 12th to provide support and assistance to those considering a submission.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The CHSS Center for the Digital Humanities is pleased to announce two summer grant opportunities open to all full-time CHSS faculty: a Digital Humanities Seed Grant and a Digital Humanities Project Grant. The objective of these grants is to foster research, scholarship, and external grant-seeking in the Digital Humanities. Collaborations among individuals, departments, colleges, and institutions are encouraged; however, the principal investigator of the grant application must have an appointment in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Applications will be reviewed by the CHSS Center for the Digital Humanities Faculty Advisory Committee and recommendations provided to the Dean for final determination.

GRANT CATEGORIES
CHSS Digital Humanities Seed Grant ($1,000) – Two Awards
The CHSS Center for the Digital Humanities Seed Grants are intended to provide summer stipends for developing external grant applications focused on the Digital Humanities. Projects already receiving Dean’s office funding will not be considered. The period for the grant development is summer of 2018.

Those awarded Seed Grants agree to:

• submit an Executive Summary to AJ Kelton, Director of the CDH. The Executive Summary is due 14 days after the first day of classes of the Fall semester following the award period.
• make a 45-minute presentation at either the Fall or Spring Digital Humanities Day, as indicated on the CDH Summer Grant application as well as a very brief synopsis of the research project at an agreed upon college meeting (subject to scheduling).
• Provide the director of the CDH with a copy of the submitted external grant application and proof of submission.

CHSS Digital Humanities Project Grant ($4,000) – Two Awards
The CHSS Center for the Digital Humanities Project Grants are intended to provide summer stipends to support an ongoing Digital Humanities research project. The work is to take place, and funds expensed, no later than August 31st, 2018. Projects already receiving Dean’s Office funding are ineligible; those with existing external grant funding will have priority.

Those awarded Project Grants agree to:

• submit an Executive Summary to AJ Kelton, Director of the CDH. The Executive Summary is due 14 days after the first day of classes of the Fall semester following the award period.
• complete the Activity Report form online, addressing each of the items outlined. The Activity report is due by the first Monday of December following the award period.
• make a 45-minute presentation at either the Fall or Spring Digital Humanities Day, as indicated on the CDH Summer Grant application as well as a very brief synopsis of the research project at an agreed upon college meeting (subject to scheduling).

APPLICATION and SUBMISSION
Please submit your application using the online form. (SUBMISSION WINDOW CLOSED) You will be asked to fill in the following:

• Primary Contact
  Name, email address, phone, department
• List of Collaborators
  Names, contact information, affiliations, roles and what they bring to the collaboration
• Narrative
  Describe the planned topic area and scope of work, how the results advance the field of Digital Humanities, what value the project will add to the field, and address the specifics indicated in each grant. The narrative should be of sufficient length to detail the specifics of your application.
• Budget and Justification
• Current CV
• Additional details such as name of agency and URL for external grants or intended journal for publications, technology needed or being requested, and what the CDH can do to support the grant proposal, research, and/or project.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Projects that are awarded CHSS CDH Summer Grants agree to include language in presentations, projects, or publications acknowledging the CHSS Center for the Digital Humanities involvement
• A mission of the Center for the Digital Humanities is to support, and provide, digital artifacts representing the work the center is doing. Awardees agree to have their Executive Summary, and appropriate portions of the Activity Report, and/or other collateral material posted to the CDH web site. In addition, presentations, including those at the Digital Humanities Days, will be photographed, recorded, and streamed live to the Center’s YouTube Channel, and the resulting digital media will be made available through the Center’s website and social media channels, unless doing so would violate an ethical or IRB restriction, as determined by the Principal Investigator.
