  • If you have already taken the ACT, SAT, or Praxis Core and have met the minimum score below, you should submit that score with your application.
  • If you took the ACT, SAT, or Praxis Core and did not meet the minimum score required, contact an admissions representative before retesting to discuss your options.
  • If you have not taken an ACT, SAT, or Praxis Core, contact an admissions representative to make an informed decision about which test is right for you.

Important: Basic Skills Requirement Update

Basic Skills Requirement Update

On June 28, 2024, Governor Murphy signed a law that states students no longer will be required to complete a basic reading, writing, and mathematics testing requirement for admission into a teacher preparation program. This law will become effective on January 1, 2025. The logistical details regarding this change will need to be worked out here at the university, but we wanted to let you know as soon as possible that this law means Montclair State University will not require the basic skills requirement for undergraduate, postBA, or MAT candidates currently applying for admissions into the Teacher Education Program for Spring 2025.

Please note that Teacher Education Program candidates still will be required to complete all required Praxis subject assessment tests prior to the Clinical Year, as well as any other required tests in their certification area. Go here for those testing requirements.

To learn more about the Teacher Education Admissions Process we encourage you to attend an upcoming Information Session which you can register for by clicking here.

If you would prefer to meet one on one we would be glad to do so, to schedule an appointment (with Ms. Cherese Jackson), please use the Navigate system in NEST.
