A Paterson Project: The Weight of the World is Love
On Saturday, May 15th 2021 and Sunday, May 16th 2021, students from the Theatre Studies BA program’s Site-Specific Performance class, instructed by Jessica Brater and Katilin Stilwell, created performances outside of traditional theater spaces through the integration of interdisciplinary research and theatrical practice. Students worked at a site-specific location and engaged in research related to that location to develop a culminating performance project. This semester they engaged with the rich history of Paterson, NJ’s Hinchliffe Stadium, Mary Ellen Kramer Park, and Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park to design a COVID-safe, live and recorded performance. Audiences were invited to learn about the history of these sites and think about their connection to the location.
