New Jersey Campus Compact
On October 18th, 2019, Campus Compact held their annual meeting at Middlesex County College. Campus Compact participants from varying universities and colleges in New Jersey were in attendance to discuss matters related to their professional development. The event provided an open space for discussion on how each school can better assist their students in their community engagement.
Apart from professional development, the event also included a student panel comprised of two Middlesex County College students. Krystal Woolston, Assistant Director of the Center for Community Engagement, facilitated the conversation. Students Yassir Mohamed and Ingrid Pinedo were asked to describe their journeys as students in relation to their community engaged activities. Yassir spoke about his experiences being in active duty and how that shaped his interests in creating youth centers for boys. Ingrid spoke about her experience as a minority and how that shaped the future she wants to pursue. They also expressed worry about engaging with school officials and political authorities to attempt larger scale community projects.
