In Memoriam: Professor Fran Greb

It is with great sadness that we inform the College community that Professor Fran Greb, faculty member in the department of Early Childhood, Elementary and Literacy Education, passed away on August 21 following a battle with cancer.

Fran joined the faculty of Montclair State University in 1999, following a long and distinguished career as a teacher.  Her work on building and nurturing school/university partnerships and on mentoring future teachers was exemplary.  Her long-time work at the Bradford School in Montclair and at the Knollwood School in Parsippany, in particular, established outstanding collaborative learning opportunities for students and teachers at the school, for Montclair State’s student teachers.  She shared the knowledge gained from these partnerships through numerous articles and presentations at national conferences.  She served the department as the program coordinator for the undergraduate programs in early childhood and elementary teacher education and as the clinical coordinator.  She also served the University as a member of the University Senate.  Fran was appointed to the New Jersey Commission on Programs for Gifted Students by Governor James McGreevey and was a member of the Liberty Science Center Teachers Programs Advisory Board.

Her quick wit and ever-present sense of humor brought joy to her colleagues and friends.  Fran will be greatly missed by her colleagues at Montclair State and in the schools, and by countless teachers she dedicated her career to prepare.
