Dr. Mousumi Bose to Give Presentation at Rutgers University

Dr. Mousumi Bose, Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies will be giving a presentation at Rutgers University on December 14, 2022, at 2:15 pm. We hope that many will be able to join as Dr. Bose presents “Dietary Assessments in Rare Pediatric Disorders”.

The purpose of this study was to determine best practices in evaluating nutrient and energy intake in individuals (mainly children) diagnosed with Zellweger spectrum disorder, a rare genetic disease the presents with severe cognitive and physical disabilities.

Dr. Bose’s research interests are focused on understanding the needs of communities affected by rare diseases. This includes conducting dietary assessments, determining the impact of rare diseases on overall quality of life, addressing healthcare disparities within the rare disease community, and evaluating caregiver burden. In 2021, Dr. Bose co-authored a guidebook for caregivers of patients with rare diseases and recently co-authored a national policy report entitled “Caregiving in a Diverse America: Beginning to Understand The Systemic Challenges Facing Family Caregivers”. Dr. Bose’s research has also been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals including Cells, Journal of Child Neurology, Genetics in Medicine, Molecular Genetics and Metabolism, and MGM Reports. Prior to joining the faculty at Montclair State University, Dr. Bose studied hormonal changes after bariatric surgery as part of her postdoctoral research and how food components, such as green tea polyphenols, affects risk for chronic disease in rodent models as part of her graduate studies.
