Praxis of Building A Collective – Monday 4/24 (7:00-815 pm on Zoom) is one of a series of events provided by the Urban Education PhD program of the City University of New York. Their research-intensive program is committed to critical and interdisciplinary studies in urban education, with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism and social justice. The program prepares students with the necessary theoretical and methodological tools to understand urban education as part of other interconnected systems of urban life and to translate research findings into educational practice, policies, curricula, and political action.
This event will feature alumna Mayida Zaal, Associate Professor of Teaching & Learning at Montclair State University, Co-Director of Red Hawks Rising (RHR) Teacher Academy, and PI of the RHR Longitudinal Study in conversation with her colleagues and peers. She will be joined by
- Danielle Epps, Director, Teacher Education Admissions, Recruitment & Diversity, Co-Director of Red Hawks Rising (RHR) Teacher Academy, and Co-PI of the RHR Longitudinal Study.
- Maheen Ahmad, Teacher Education and Teacher Development (TETD) Doctoral Student and member of the Reclaiming ME (Muslim Educator) Research Collective
- Rebecca Myers, Teacher Education and Teacher Development (TETD) Doctoral Student and research team member for the Red Hawks Rising Teacher Academy Longitudinal Study.
- Amir Billups – Department Chairperson for Social Studies at University HS, Newark, NJ and member of both Reclaiming ME and Red Hawks Rising Teacher Academy team.
