Newark Board of Education and MSU Collaborative Virtual Meeting

On January 20, 2022, the Newark Board of Education and Montclair State University held a collaborative virtual meeting.

The meeting contained a Centering Activity, led by Rhena Jasey-Goodman, Induction Coordinator of the Center of Pedagogy. Then, updates from Partnership Teams occurred. The teams include the Transformative Education Network (TEN), the Bilingual Education Team, and the NBOE/MSU Leadership Pipeline Program.

The Transformative Education Network (TEN) prepares, supports and develops teachers who teach toward antiracism and social justice. TEN was created as an inclusive umbrella term for three programs: the Urban Teacher Residency (UTR), the Newark Teacher Project (NTP), and Critical Urban Education (CUE).

Bilingual education supports the learning of grade-level content across all curricula. At Montclair State University, the Bilingual Bicultural Education Endorsement Program prepares teachers to work effectively with English Language Learners and their families.

The NBOE/MSU Leadership Pipeline Program is a strategy to produce a continuous flow of viable candidates with the capacity to cultivate school improvement and increase student achievement.

The Red Hawks Rising (RHR) Dual Enrollment Teacher Academy gave a project overview. Through a unique partnership between Newark Public Schools and CEHS, students enrolled in East Side or University High School can take college-level courses, at no cost, that will apply towards a degree at Montclair State University.

The meeting was informative and displayed the dedication and hard work of both the Newark Board of Education and the College of Education and Human Services. Great things are happening!
