AERA Educational Change Special Interest Group Interview with Dr. Patricia Virella
Posted in: College News and Events
Dr. Patricia Virella, Assistant Professor in the Educational Leadership Department, recently participated in a Question and Answer interview with the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Educational Change Special Interest Group.
Dr. Virella applies critical lenses and qualitative methods to investigate how school leaders enact equity-oriented leadership through crises. Dr. Virella also investigates how educational reform policies shape school leaders’ equity orientation and impact districts that serve marginalized communities. Dr. Virella seeks to answer research questions to enable transformation and liberation in school leaders, districts, and policies.
AERA charges researchers and practitioners with dismantling oppressive education systems and replacing them with anti-racist, equity, and justice-oriented systems. Dr. Virella discusses her approach in the AERA interview.
