Steve Way Speaks to Dr. Rich Wolfson’s Class on Disabilities
Posted in: College News and Events
Steve Way, a graduate of our teacher education program, the co-star of Ramy on Hulu, and a tireless disability advocate, recently visited Dr. Rich Wolfson’s Public Purposes of Education class. Montclair State University President Jonathan Koppell also visited the class to hear Way’s commentary on disabilities and how they affect our students and our abilities to teach them. Born with Muscular Dystrophy, Steve shared his experiences as both a student in the Rutherford Public Schools and as an undergraduate of Montclair State University. He also discussed his stints as a substitute teacher and as a writer and actor, most notably in the Hulu show Ramy with co-star Ramy Youssef. Steve’s visit to the class reinforced major themes of the course, which is a prerequisite for those applying to the teacher education program, of democracy, inclusion, and trusting students as experts in their own lives.
