Dr. Kaitlin Mulcahy, Director of the Center for Autism and Early Childhood Mental Health is quoted in this NJ Spotlight News article about infant mental health.

The article states that the pandemic brought an increased focus to the mental health of school-aged kids. But the mental well-being of our youngest children can often go overlooked. Legislators Thursday heard unique testimony from parents and advocates who say the best time to focus on mental health starts immediately at birth.

Dr. Mulcahy said, “To think that ‘oh my goodness, there’s a baby that might have something wrong or be in distress,’ we don’t want to think about it. So as a result, it’s overlooked in policy; it’s overlooked in education; it’s not what providers who are interested in mental health think about when they’re looking for training programs.”
