Rich Fuchs: msuwhockey16@gmail.com
Coach Fuchs (“Coach Rich”) has continued his commitment to the sport by coaching youth ice hockey for over 20 years with various organizations. He began his coaching career at Randolph High School in 2000 as an assistant coach for the boys’ varsity team (at the invitation of his former head coach) and remained with the team for seven years, during which they won the first of nine state championships in 2003 (they won three during his tenure).
Since 2006-07, Coach Fuchs has been Head Coach of the Randolph Middle School team—which has won five league championships—and has volunteered as a Head or Assistant Coach at all levels for Randolph Recreation Ice Hockey. Beginning in 2018, he joined the New Jersey Colonials and has been an assistant or head coach of the girls’ ice hockey teams ranging from 8U to 12U Major. Also in 2018, he returned (a third time) to Randolph High School to become Assistant Coach of the Girls’ Varsity Ice Hockey Team, a position he held until 2023. In 2023, he was named the head coach of The Pingry School’s Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Team, where he led the team to its first NJ State Championship. He stepped down from The Pingry School to become the head coach of the Montclair State University Women’s Club Team (ACHA D2).
Among his honors, the Randolph Recreation Department honored Coach Fuchs in 2023 with its “Helen Bauer Award,” given annually to one individual who exemplifies volunteerism; he equates it to a “lifetime achievement award.” In 2022, Coach Fuchs received the New York Rangers and Junior Rangers “Emile Francis Award” for his tireless efforts and dedication to youth hockey, and to increase girls’ participation in the sport. And he was inducted into both the New Jersey High School Ice Hockey Hall of Fame (2018) and Randolph High School Athletic Hall of Fame (2022 & 2024) as an assistant coach for Randolph’s state champion 2002-03 and the 2005-06 and 2006-07 teams.
