First Floor

First Floor Fitness

  • Proper athletic attire, as defined in our policies which can be found here, Protect Your Skin at the Gym, must be work in all of the activity areas located on the First and Second Floors of the Student Recreation Center.
  • Fitness instruction services of any kind that are not provided by certified Campus Recreation Personal Trainers are strictly prohibited.
  • All patrons must carry a hand towel when working out in fitness areas.
  • For your safety, we suggest that a spotter be utilized when lifting. If a spotter is not available, we strongly recommend using weight collars.
  • Please wipe down machines after each use with the provided equipment towel and solution.
  • Return all weights to designated areas after each use.
  • All coats and bags should be placed in lockers or provided cubbies.
  • Do not lean weights against walls or machines.
  • No dropping or slamming of weights.
  • Chalk is prohibited.
  • Montclair State Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Failure to comply with the above policies could result in immediate removal from the Student Recreation Center and/or a loss of membership privileges.

Equipment Checkout

  • Must have a valid Montclair State ID/Membership to check out equipment.
  • Purchasable items can be bought with Red Hawk Dollars, cash or credit ($10.00 minimum for all credit transactions).
  • All items lost and found are to be returned to equipment checkout.
  • Lost keys will be returned to University Police at conclusion of each day.
  • Lost items will be held at equipment checkout no longer than sixty (60) days. Any items not retrieved in this time will be discarded or donated.
  • Safety goggles must be worn when playing racquetball in the racquetball courts.
  • Failure to comply with the above policies could result in immediate removal from the Student Recreation Center and/or a loss of membership privileges.

Gymnasium Rules

  • No food or drinks allowed in the gymnasium.
  • Proper attire required (please dress in athletic attire and non-marking rubber shoes).
  • No cell phones allowed.
  • Coats and bags should be placed in cubbies or lockers.
  • Hours may vary depending upon scheduled activities.
  • No dunking or hanging on nets or rims.
  • Montclair State University Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Changing clothes in the gym is prohibited.
  • The use of personal music is prohibited.
  • All rented items must be returned 15 minutes before closing.
  • Failure to comply with the above policies could result in immediate removal from the Student Recreation Center and/or loss of membership privileges.

Pool

  • All persons using the pool must be at least five (5) years old, toilet trained and all guests must remain with the member while in the building.
  • Fitness instruction services of any kind that are not provided by Campus Recreation Instructors are strictly prohibited.
  • All persons must shower before entering the water.
  • All patrons must abide by the swim attire code (bathing suit/board shorts: gym and jean shorts are strictly prohibited).
  • The lifeguard reserves the right to decide who shall and shall not be permitted to use the pool. All lifeguards are trained and instructed to abide by all Campus Recreation policies and procedures.
  • Persons suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be prohibited from entering the water.
  • Running, pushing, throwing into the pool, use of profanity, or behavior causing annoyance, danger or abuse is prohibited and will result in suspension from using the pool and/or all Campus Recreation Facilities.
  • U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices only.
  • The pool will be evacuated in the event of lightning and will remain closed until 30 minutes after the last evidence of lightning or thunder is present.
  • Emergency Pool Procedures:
    • If the lifeguard blows his/her whistle, look for further instruction.
    • In case of evacuation, please stay with the group and follow the lifeguard’s directions.
