Manipulative disinformation campaigns relying on social media have not only affected the very foundations of our political systems in recent years, but have also distorted our understanding of social issues, such as human trafficking. This round-table seeks to scrutinize the connections between the politics of information dissemination, large global patterns of anti-feminist oppression in the context of transnational labor and organized crime, and systemic genderized and race-based injustice in different criminal justice systems to cope with these challenges. Panelists including scholars from a variety of fields and disciplines share their views and reflect on how to best envision and implement strategies to address these repressive, power-driven institutional and cultural obstacles at home and abroad.

Panelists:  Fawzia Afzal-Khan (Department of English), Bond Benton (School of Communication and Media), Sudeshna Chatterjee (University of Massachusetts Boston),  Venezia Michalsen (Department of Justice Studies).

Moderator: Arnaud Kurze (Department of Justice Studies)
