A fourteenth-century murder mystery based on the eponymous book by Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose traces the investigation led by a Franciscan monk, William of Baskerville, into a serious of mysterious deaths in an Italian abbey. Starring Sean Connery, Christian Slater, and E. Murray Abraham, and directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, the film won a César for best foreign film in 1986.
