Human Trafficking is a unique, and complex crime that spans the globe. Unfortunately, its complexity is an immense barrier in the fight to combat trafficking. The anti-trafficking community has made few advancements in the fight against trafficking or supporting its survivors, despite countless pieces of training taught, millions of hours put into research, laws established, and public awareness being at its highest. Human trafficking survivors have been involved in the anti-trafficking community since the beginning, over twenty years ago. Despite being a foundational part of the anti-trafficking community, survivors have not always been engaged in meaningful, ethical ways, yet survivors are the most knowledgeable people on human trafficking. Their lived experience provides a direct lens into the needs of survivors, how trafficking occurs, and why, and how to best combat it. Join us to hear from lived experienced professionals who will share why survivors are more than just their stories, and how the community can effectively and ethically engage survivors in anti-trafficking work.
