Montclair’s Accounting program is designed to prepare students for success in the field of accounting and finance.  The program also prepares students to become Certified Public Accountants (CPA).  Becoming a CPA is a crucial step for anyone looking to advance in the competitive field of accounting and finance. A CPA designation not only enhances professional credibility but also opens doors to higher earning potential and diverse career opportunities.

To prepare students for the CPA exam, Montclair has partnered with UWorld to provide access to their Elite Unlimited 4-Part CPA Review Course.The CPA review course provided by UWorld is designed to ensure students have the best chance of success in their professional endeavors.

Who has access to the course?

  • Students graduating with a BS in Accounting from Montclair State University can register for the course at no additional cost.
  • Montclair students graduating with a MS in Accounting can register for the course at a discounted rate.

What if my employer is paying for a CPA review course?

If your future employer is paying for your CPA review course, you may be entitled to a full refund of the CPA review fees paid as an MSU student.

2. What do I need to do to become a CPA?

You must meet the following requirements to become a licensed CPA in New Jersey:

  1. Education – 150 hours of higher education credits from an accredited school is required to become a CPA.
  2. Examination – You must pass the Uniform CPA Examination ® (CPA Exam), which consists of three four-hour Core sections and one four-hour Discipline section of your choice. The Core sections are Auditing and Attestation (AUD), Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), and Taxation and Regulation (REG). The Discipline sections are Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR), Information Systems and Control (ISC), and Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP).   3. Experience – One year of experience (1,750 hours) working under a CPA whose active license is from NJ or from a state that is substantially equivalent to NJ. Currently all states are substantially equivalent. The experience must be in the areas of auditing or accounting.
