Red Hawk Investment Fund: Empowering Future Financial Leaders with Real-World Experience

The Feliciano School of Business Red Hawk Student Managed Investment Fund offers a unique, hands-on learning experience through the Advanced Investments Theory and Practice course. In this course, students are tasked with designing a portfolio aimed at meeting specific investment performance goals. This real-world experience goes beyond traditional classroom learning, giving students a significant competitive edge as they prepare to enter the job market.

Funded by the Montclair State University Foundation, a nonprofit organization responsible for managing the university’s funds and property, the Red Hawk Investment Fund is under the careful supervision of a team of advisory board members, faculty, and industry specialists. The students however take the lead, conducting thorough research, presenting their investment recommendations, and executing the portfolio plan. This direct involvement in managing actual money provides invaluable practical experience, mirroring the responsibilities they will face in their future careers.

Throughout the semester, students delve into management of large pension plans or endowments, drafting investment policy statements, and setting investment guidelines. Each semester students present to the foundation board, where they showcase their fund’s performance and propose new investment strategies. The Red Hawk Investment Fund is an innovative experience that prepares students for the dynamic challenges of the financial industry and builds the confidence needed to excel the moment they enter the workforce.
