The Department of Art and Design and the Montclair Museum of Art Continue Collaboration at Free First Thursday Nights Events

Posted in: Department of Art and Design News

MFA Studio Art student Kasia Skorynkiewicz will present her interactive work "Post" at the upcoming Free First Thursday Nights event at the Montclair Art Museum on April 7th.

The Montclair Art Museum and the Department of Art and Design will continue their fruitful collaboration of presenting the work of emerging artists from the MFA Studio Art program at the museum’s Free First Thursday Nights event. At the upcoming collaboration in April, second-year student Kasia Skorynkiewicz will present her work Post.

Post is Skorynkiewicz’s interactive wall collage made from discarded postage stamps, which will invite museum visitors to add to the expanding piece. By choosing a stamp from the mass collection and writing their own personal experiences on the back of the stamp, the visitors will contribute to the overall collage with their addition. The communal artwork will become a collaborative and reflective piece which addresses the obsolescent and transient nature of objects that exist within our modern times.

Building on a long-standing relationship between Montclair State and one of Montclair’s premier institutions of art, this will be the second joint participation at the Free First Thursday Night events. The monthly event which runs from October through June invites visitors to enjoy live music, tours and entertainment, food and drink, and extended hours.

Join Kasia Skorynkiewicz on Thursday April 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Montclair Museum of Art for an evening of dynamic art; visit the museum’s events page for the full schedule.
