Tokyo University of the Arts Visits Montclair State University
On November 6 and 7, 2014 Montclair State University hosted Japanese students from Tokyo University of the Arts through the international exchange program “Kakehashi Project- the Bridge for Tomorrow.”
This program is funded by the government of Japan through the Japan-US Educational Commission (Fulbright Japan).
The same June 2014 “Student Creators” program funded the June 2014 study tour of Tokyo and Kanazawa for twelve Montclair State University Art and Design students.
The two-day visit by the Japanese students was organized by the Global Education Center with assistance from the MSU Art and Design students who went to Japan.
The visiting Tokyo University of the Arts students gave presentations on how traditional Japanese aesthetics influences their own studies in fine arts, contemporary arts, applied arts, and traditional music. These presentations were viewed in selected classes and at an all-campus special event, followed by a reception for networking and discussion between the Japanese and American students and faculty.
Concurrently, the MSU students displayed their own artwork inspired by their Japan trip.
