Tara George Comments on ChatGPT Shortcomings
Posted in: College News and Announcements
Tara George, Associate Professor in the School of Communication and Media, was recently featured in an article regarding ChatGPT making up phony anonymous sources. She stated, “It’s really extraordinary what it can do but if you spend any time with it you realize that it has severe shortcomings. It’s getting harder and harder to tell the good stuff from the bad stuff, the fake news from the well reported journalism, and I think that AI is going to make that worse.”
Professor George teaches journalism classes to undergraduates and has been recognized for Professing Excellence at Montclair State. She mentors and advises students at the independent multiplatform student news organization, and their work has won awards at the state and national levels. She conceived of and helps to lead an innovative collaborative journalism project bringing together student editors from all the student media organizations on campus. She also helps to co-ordinate a program placing students in journalism internships through close partnership with The Center for Cooperative Media, a grant-funded initiative housed at Montclair State and devoted to supporting journalism.
