Five SCM students Emma Cimo, Fabricio Costa, Daniel Falkenheim, Thomas Formoso and Jayna Gugliucci along with Professor Kelly Whiteside attended the first Sports Media Consortium in Atlanta —  "Atlanta, 20 Years Later: Lessons in Sports Media from the Last American Summer Olympic Games."

The group examined issues such as crisis communications and coverage of the Centennial Park Bombing, the impact the Atlanta Games had on women’s sports coverage and looked ahead to the Olympics in Rio this summer. They spent time with prominent sports reporters Christine Brennan, Phil Hersh and Kevin Blackistone as well as Briana Scurry, the gold-medal winning goalkeeper from the 1996 Games.

Montclair State, Penn State, Indiana, Alabama and Georgia formed the consortium to examine critical issues in sports media. Montclair State and Penn State will co-host the next event in 2018 ahead of the World Cup in Russia.
