Montclair State University has begun construction on a new state-of-the-art building for the College of the Arts’ School of Communication and Media and a new arts and sciences quad that will run from Richardson Hall to College Hall.
Work has begun on the project and is expected to continue through the end of December 2016. Construction fences have been erected around the work area in front of Morehead and Life Halls and will remain in place until work is complete.
The new School of Communication and Media building will be a 105,000-square-foot facility that will join together what is now Morehead Hall and Life Hall into a single, multi-functional communications and multimedia facility.
The new building will be equipped with a leading-edge, multi-platform “newsroom of the future,” along with a 150-seat presentation hall, broadcast studios, integrated media lab, film screening room, and acting and dance studios.
The new arts and sciences quad will be completed in phases and will feature a center pathway lined with larger trees and bordered by lawn areas, ornamental trees and plantings, benches and seating areas, and new lighting, among the many planned improvements.
Please refer to the construction circulation map for information on the fence location, building entrances and pedestrian traffic flow in the area. Directional signs have also been placed at strategic locations around the site to assist pedestrians.
Additionally, effective Monday, August 3, utility trench construction associated with the technology infrastructure for the new School of Communication and Media will begin in front of Memorial Auditorium. The limits of work will extend from the existing construction fence located immediately in front of Memorial Auditorium to an area adjacent to the New Center for Environmental and Life Sciences.
Access to Memorial Auditorium and the Speech Building will be maintained at all times and the construction will be sequenced in phases: Phase 1 and Phase 2. This work is scheduled to be completed by the last week in August.
