The George Segal Gallery announces its new exhibit, "Jersey Women Artist Now: Contemporary Visions," will be held March 6 to April 19.

The exhibition features the work of 18 artists who are either originally from, or currently live and work in, New Jersey.  The exhibit is curated by Allison Leigh, professor of Art History, Montclair State University and Dodge–Lawrence Fellow of Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University. Leigh chose to feature works which span a range of styles and media; from abstract and figurative painting, to sculpture, photography, prints and drawing.  Two educational programs are offered in the month of April to complement the exhibition.

Artists featured include: Lizz Andronaco; Mona Brody; Jennifer Cadoff; Giovanna Cecchetti; Nancy Cohen; Lauren Ennis; K.S. Ernst; Pat Feeney Murrell; Hanna Fink; Grace Graupe-Pillard; Joyce Kozloff; Dannielle Mick; Gina Minichino; Nancy Ori; Roslyn Ori; Joan Snyder; Leah Tomaino; and Nomi Waksberg.

Seasoned and established artists, Snyder and Ori (Nancy), show their work alongside newcomers Andronaco and Minichino.  Seeing the works of  varying  generations of women artists side by side provides a means of examining ideas that women have been highlighting in their art practices over time.

“…the exhibition intentionally mixes the works so as to resist categories imposed by my method of arrangements," Leigh said. "Even works by the same artist have often purposefully not been kept together so as to defy systemization.”

The George Segal Gallery will host an opening reception on Thursday, March 20, 5-7:30 p.m.  A panel discussion featuring artists Andronaco, Cohen, and Ori (Nancy), is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 3-5 p.m., and will be moderated by Leigh.  On Thursday, April 10, from 6-7:30pm, distinguished art historian, Joan Marter will lecture on women artists.

Hours for the George Segal Gallery are as follows: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Thursdays, from 12:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. For more information, visit here.
