a pressing conference

A Pressing Conference is an interactive art installation, where four groups of Montclair State students will tackle current issues inspired by the current exhibitions at the Montclair Art Museum (MAM).

The installation by Macon Reed invites MSU students and the Montclair community to take on the perspective of being at the White House Press Briefing Room.

Take on the role of the White House Press Secretary and address ideas of identity, immigration policy and nationalism in today’s political climate. A press conference will take place with four groups of students, who will be answering questions inspired by MAM’s concurrent exhibitions on view– Constructing Identity in America and Kara Walker: Virginia Lynch Mob and Other Works. Following the conference, there will be an open invitation for the press and public to ask questions and have a conversation about how to move forward together in response to the current political climate.

Multimedia artist Macon Reed’s art practice includes sculpture, installation, video, radio documentary, painting, and participatory projects. Her work has been shown at PULSE NYC, The Kitchen, Chicago Cultural Center, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and Mana Contemporary, among others. Presented in partnership with Montclair State University’s Department of Art and Design where Reed is working closely with students and faculty to present this ongoing community project.
