The Department of Art & Design presents the Spring 2024 Art Forum series. Art Forum is a speaker series featuring artists, designers, art historians, and art critics from around the world presenting their work and ideas in an open forum.

The third speaker of this amazing series is Aya Uekawa. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Uekawa completed her MFA at Hunter College in New York City. Her work combines real and imagined imagery to depict the psychological state of young women to symbolize their struggles, choices, and endurance.

Aya Uekawa studied at Komazawa University in Tokyo and, despite facing financial challenges, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in 2004 and later completed her master’s at Hunter College, CUNY in 2008. Uekawa’s artwork has been exhibited in numerous international exhibitions including Kravets|Wehby Gallery in New York, Neumann Wolfson Art, Arnt and Partner in Berlin, the Baltimore Museum of Art, FLAG Art Foundation in New York, and the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati. In her paintings, she combines real and imagined imagery to depict the psychological states of young women, symbolizing their struggles, choices, and endurance. She is based in Beacon, NY.
