As the senior vice president of video programming and development at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Miller-Olko leads a team that executes all of the company’s digital video and television production. As a graduate of Montclair State’s broadcasting department, Miller-Olko has enjoyed the roller coaster ride of the ever-changing media industry and has always loved the challenges and growth it brings.
“What an exciting time in the video business! We’ve only just begun to realize its potential as television and digital video content is now available at our fingertips at any time, everywhere,” she says.
Her group’s work services many areas of the company including editorial where they produce 70 videos a month for digital series, including Everyday Food, Entertaining with Emeril, Kitchen Conundrums, DIY Style and Good Things. They build custom video content for the ad sales team for clients like Triscuit and Arm & Hammer and work closely with the company’s merchandise partners, which include Macys, the Home Depot, PetSmart and EK Success. Miller-Olko also executive produces Martha Bakes and Martha Stewart’s Cooking School which both air on PBS.
Her internship while at Montclair State brought her to work at ABC’s Live with Regis and Kathie Lee. After she graduated, she then went on to work as a producer and co-executive producer at various shows for syndicators and networks including Paramount, Telepictures, ABC and NBC. Over the course of her career she has won two Emmy awards as a producer for her work on the Rosie O’Donnell Show and two Emmy awards as a supervising producer on the Martha Stewart Show.
“My time at Montclair State taught me so many valuable lessons and skills I use daily in my professional life,” says Miller-Olko. “It was an incredible yet affordable education.”
As an undergraduate commuter student, the Dumont Television Studio served as her home base when on campus. Miller-Olko says that it was her professors and the upperclassman in her program that served as her motivation throughout college and made learning fun.
A storyteller at her core, Miller-Olko loves getting the opportunity to understand and communicate the soul of a brand in a way that brings value to viewers. Putting her communication skills to use, she has joined several of her peers from the class of 1990 to serve on the Alumni Leadership Committee for their 25th class reunion, which will take place this fall.
“I want this to be a time that my classmates and I can stop and celebrate how far we’ve come in 25 years,” says Miller-Olko. “I’m excited to connect with fellow alumni and remember back to our days at Montclair State that laid the foundation for who we’ve become.”
As she looks ahead to this celebration and reflects on her own personal accomplishments, she’s proud to say that she’s a graduate of Montclair State.
