Disnalda Vargas ’09

Audit Senior, Deloitte

Disnalda Vargas

Disnalda Vargas knew at a young age that she wanted to be a part of the world of business. Knowing this, she applied to Montclair State and pursued a Bachelor of Science in business administration with an accounting concentration. She currently serves as an audit senior at Deloitte, where she interned during her time at Montclair State. At Deloitte, her responsibilities include assisting in the design of the audit approach, supervising a personnel staff and performing audit procedures of client’s financial statements.

With a business major and a minor in management, Vargas held internships at Deloitte and BASF which she’s confident prepared her for the work she does today.

“The work experience that I gained through both internship experiences is something I’ve carried with me throughout my professional career,” says Vargas. “These opportunities definitely helped my growth when I began to navigate the business world.”

Along with this experience, Vargas continues to find herself referring back to the life lessons taught by her dedicated Accounting, Law and Taxation professor, Irene Douma. Thinking back to the professional advice and encouragement she received from professor Douma, Vargas has decided to actively pay it forward to today’s current students. In 2014, the School of Business established a Young Professionals Board, whose mission is to provide guidance and support to students while they undergo their education and transition into the business world after graduation. Vargas is one of five executive board members that serves on this volunteer board. As the board’s secretary she has seen firsthand the opportunities that school of business alumni have to give back to their alma mater.

During her undergraduate studies, she was highly involved in campus life and served as the vice president of the accounting society. She believes that one of the most enjoyable aspects of Montclair State is the diverse student population, which she found in and out of the classroom.

“Diversity was definitely an important factor in selecting Montclair State,” she remembers. “I was able to meet and make long lasting friendships with individuals of different backgrounds. The diversity impacted my experience because I was able to learn about different cultures which was essentially preparing me for the workforce, as I would also have to work with professionals with different backgrounds.”

Today in addition to her volunteer work, she continues to take part in alumni networking events which include the Third Annual Accounting Reception and the 5th Annual Wine Tasting. As she continues her professional journey and volunteer work, she is happy to have been able to stay connected with her alma mater and looks forward to the future plans of the Young Professionals Board.
