Your Affinity to Montclair State

As a leading institution of higher education in New Jersey, Montclair State University provides a rich academic experience that elevates students’ success, serves students who reflect the full diversity of our society, and provides a home in New Jersey for the pursuit of education and growth that prepares tomorrow’s leaders. Upon graduation, you join a powerful network of over 130,000 alumni working in virtually every profession, living across all 50 states, and in more than 75 countries worldwide. As alumni, you have the opportunity to stay connected to your alma mater through lifelong learning opportunities, social gatherings, cultural events, networking activities, career resources and more. The Office of Alumni Engagement looks to develop meaningful, mutually beneficial opportunities for you to engage with fellow alumni, current students and faculty, and the University.

One of those ways is through affinity groups which give alumni a unique and valuable way to stay engaged with their alma mater. Montclair State affinity groups help alumni connect through shared interests or affiliation such as major, region or employer. These groups serve as a platform for like-minded Red Hawks to stay connected, providing a meaningful way to connect with each other and support their alma mater. Many enjoy a closer connection to the University because of their involvement with these important groups. If you have an idea for an affinity group, please contact the Office of Alumni Engagement at alumni@montclair.edu or 973-655-4141.

Are you an alumnus/a from the School of Communication and Media? A Red Hawk working for Prudential Financial? Or an Alumni Campus Employee? We invite you to check out some of the affinity-based events coming up!

School of Communication and Media: Alumni Networking Event – November 7

On Thursday, November 7, join the School of Communication and Media at its inaugural alumni networking event at the Halcyon Brasserie in Montclair. At the event, alumni will have the opportunity to network with graduates from across the School’s broad degree programs, hear an update on the School’s successes and its future plans, reminisce with faculty and staff, and talk with a select group of the School’s senior class.

Whether you are a recent graduate of the School or you graduated from one of the many excellent programs that formed the School’s foundation, this inaugural networking social will provide fantastic opportunities to grow your professional circle, share new ideas and collectively leverage the value of the Montclair State alumni community.

If you plan on attending, please register online by Sunday, November 3. If you have questions or would like to register by phone, contact Katelin Spooner, Office of Alumni Engagement, at spoonerk@montclair.edu or 973-655-3323.

Prudential Financial – November 20

On Wednesday, November 20, alumni who are employed by Prudential Financial will come together for a discussion on the “Future of Work.” At the event, attendees will have the opportunity to network with fellow graduates, colleagues and University leadership.

“Prudential and Montclair State University have a longstanding partnership that includes many alumni contributing their talents to Prudential’s workforce. I’m thrilled that our organizations are coming together to discuss an important topic for our times, the future of work,” says Michele D. Ansbacher ’80, formerly corporate chief ethics officer at Prudential and currently board chair of the Feliciano School of Business Advisory Board. “We are excited that this is the first event for Montclair alumni at their place of work and we look forward to similar alumni events at other companies.”

At Prudential, the Future of Work is an enterprise-wide initiative, primarily focused on three components: transforming technology and data strategy; creating career mobility through learning and re-skilling; and achieving significant efficiency through automation and organizational realignment. The Future of Work is a large-scale initiative to understand and address the impact of rapid changes in customer behaviors and needs, technology and competition.

ACE Welcome Back Luncheon – January 2020

In January 2020, we will be ringing in the new year by hosting our 6th Annual Alumni Campus Employee Welcome Back Luncheon. As faculty and staff, and as alumni who contribute to the University community and our students, we’d like to show our appreciation. Alumni Campus Employees are unique members of the campus community, having spent time here as students and now as staff and faculty. Throughout the year, our students and alumni benefit from campus employee’s tireless efforts, whether in the classroom or in the many administrative offices here on campus.

Dr. Daniel Jean ’00 MA, executive director of EOF and Academic Development at Montclair State, has attended the event in the past and enjoys the opportunity to gather with colleagues and fellow alumni. “As a proud Red Hawk and EOF alumnus, I truly enjoy working in a diverse community where individualism is celebrated and scholars are able to find their niche,” he says. “The expertise of the faculty and staff coupled with the vibrancy of the scholars creates an environment that is electric, inviting and exciting to be a part of.”

Please note – this event is only open to alumni who work for Montclair State University.
