Montclair State University’s Fourth Annual Red Hawk Open took place on Monday, September 26, at the Montclair Golf Club at Rock Spring. Over 100 golfers came out for a beautiful day on the course to benefit Montclair State Athletics teams and programs, raising $110,000.

The funds will go towards the purchase of strength and conditioning equipment for the Panzer Athletic Center, and will also be allocated to each of the 18 varsity athletic programs to assist with each program’s individual needs. Teams can use this money for travel, equipment, special events or specialty training sessions with an expert in the field.
The day began with a BBQ lunch that gave participants a chance to mingle with one another before gathering on the course for a shotgun start. After hitting the links, golfers and guests enjoyed an evening of cocktails, dinner and a silent auction.
At the dinner, President Susan A. Cole offered greetings from the University and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Holly Gera gave an update on the athletics program. Charisse Myers ’16, a former field hockey athlete, spoke on behalf of student and recent alumni athletes, describing how being a student athlete at Montclair State is a life-shaping experience.
Guests were invited to bid on items ranging from sports memorabilia and golf foursomes to a night on the town and other fun packages. Hot ticket items included a New York Yankees authentic stadium seat, a Carmelo Anthony autographed jersey, as well as several gift baskets and restaurant gift certificates.
Event sponsors included Terminal Construction Corporation, Hackensack UMC Mountainside, Schumacher Chevrolet, Evergreen Partners, Inc., Inserra Supermarkets, Field Turf, PSE&G, and more, as well as several hole sponsors.

This year’s planning committee included Stacy Albanese ’08, Carol Blazejowski ’78, Jeff Campo ’83, Anthony Carlino ’77, Stan Chiu, Holly Gera ’79, Beth Gottung, Jeanne Marano, Brian Mieth, Pat Quilty ’80, Marlon Sears, Judi Schumacher Tilton, John Scoras ’76 and Eddie Stawinski.
