5th Annual Red Hawk Open a Success
Posted in: Alumni News and Events
Montclair State University’s Fifth Annual Red Hawk Open took place on Monday, September 11, at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield. More than 140 golfers came out for a beautiful day on the course to benefit Montclair State Athletic teams and programs, raising $120,000.
The funds will go towards the purchase of strength and conditioning equipment for the Panzer Athletic Center, and will also be allocated to each of the 18 varsity athletic programs to assist with each program’s individual needs. Teams can use this money for travel, equipment or special events.
The day began with a BBQ lunch that gave participants a chance to mingle with one another before gathering on the course for a shotgun start. After hitting the links, golfers and guests enjoyed an evening of cocktails, dinner, a silent auction and an awards ceremony.
At the dinner, Vice President for University Advancement John T. Shannon offered greetings from the University and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Holly Gera gave an update on the athletics program. Representing all Montclair State student athletes, Steven Roth ’17, a member of the Red Hawk men’s swimming team, spoke about his experiences as a student athlete.
For the silent auction, guests were invited to bid on a variety of items including sports memorabilia, golf foursomes and other fun packages. Some of the hot ticket items were a New York Mets Experience Package that included four tickets and on-field batting practice for any home game in September, a New York Rangers Autographed Henrik Lundqvist Jersey, as well as a number of gift baskets. Also new this year was a 50/50 Raffle, which ended with the lucky winner of the day walking away with $4,040.
