With the New Year approaching, many of us begin to think of change and plan for New Year’s resolutions. If a job change or job search is in your January plans, learn about what career resources are offered to you as a graduate of Montclair State!

You can tap into a range of resources and services offered by Center for Career Services. If you’re looking for job-hunting and career-planning tips, Adam Mayer, Director of Career Development, can help. Sessions for alumni group counseling are planned for 2016, where alumni can discuss common concerns and issues that come up during the job search.

“Adam Mayer helped me immensely with my career change,” says Marilyn Moya ’98, who now works in higher education herself. “I’m also fortunate to have taken part of the many alumni career workshops offered by Alumni Relations in the past. All of these opportunities have helped to set me up for success! It was a challenge to say the least, but the rewards are priceless,” adds Moya.

This new benefit will be available beginning in 2016. Save the date for January 21, February 15, March 21 and April 18, 2016. All sessions will take place in the evening from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

“This alumni-only monthly series focuses on various career development topics including job search best practices. Bring your questions, comments and stories,” says Mayer. If you’d like to attend the first session, you may register online. For more information, contact Adam Mayer at 973-655-5194 or mayerad@mail.montclair.edu.

Many online tools also exist through MONTCLAIRconnect, the online community exclusive to Montclair State alumni, to help navigate a career change or job search. Post and search resumes and job listings, and search the directory for alumni in your desired career.

The Five O’Clock Club is an acknowledged national authority on job searches and career growth. While membership usually costs $49, Montclair State has arranged for all alumni to have free lifetime memberships.  Membership includes a subscription to The Five O’Clock News, an informative newsletter, access to print and website resources to help your job search, access to reasonably priced weekly seminars and coaching and more.

Alumni can also take advantage of Career Directions, a web-based job listing service, and other online tools including Business Exchange, Focus-2 and Optimal Resume. For more information on these online tools, visit our website or contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 973-655-4141.
