This online series explores the dynamic interplay of race, music, healing, religion, and postcolonial theory inspired by the book, Is God Funky or What?: Black Biblical Culture and Contemporary Popular Music, authored by Dr. Theodore W. Burgh.
Hosted by Dr. Kate E. Temoney, Dr. Michael Viega, and Featuring Toni Blackman
Toni Blackman is a social entrepreneur, cypher facilitator, social arts activist and advocate, director, and producer who was the first Hip Hop artist selected to work as a Cultural Ambassador with the US Department of State. She currently is the Alumni Outreach Director for Next Level Hip Hop Diplomacy Project. Her new book, Wisdom of the Cypher, will be released in January, 2021 on Red Sky Presents.
Dr. Kate E. Temoney is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion at Montclair State University.
Dr. Michael Viega is an Assistant Professor of Music at the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University. His clinical and research experience includes the healing affordances of Hip Hop Culture, digital music cultures in music therapy, and trauma with youth from limited resource communities.
