Undergraduate Programs
BMus in Music (Guitar, Instrumental, Keyboard, Voice) (Combined BMus/MAT with Teacher Certification in Music (Preschool – Grade 12) Guitar and Teacher of Students with Disabilities
This program offers students the opportunity to combine study for a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with advanced study for the Master of Arts in Teaching leading to certification for teaching music and students with disabilities.
BMus in Music, Music Education (Instrumental, Voice, Guitar, Keybaord)
The Bachelor of Music degree with the concentration in Music Education is designed to prepare students for teaching careers in New Jersey’s public schools, as well as community music schools and private or out-of-state schools.
BMus in Music, Jazz Studies Concentration
The Jazz Studies program offers training and extensive performance opportunities in both traditional and contemporary jazz styles. It provides a solid foundation in performance and history that will allow students to enter the professional music world or pursue advanced study.
BMus in Music, Performance Concentration (Instrumental, Keyboard, Voice)
The Bachelor of Music degree in performance focuses on the mastery of skills in orchestral or band instruments, piano, organ, harpsichord, guitar, or voice.
BMus in Music, School and Community Settings Concentration (Instrumental, Voice, Guitar, Keyboard)
The Bachelor of Music degree in performance focuses on the mastery of skills in orchestral or band instruments, piano, organ, harpsichord, guitar, or voice.
BMus in Music, Theory Composition Concentration
This program prepares students to teach in private schools or enter other music or non-music related fields. It does not lead to certification for teaching in the New Jersey public school system.

MA in Music, Composition Concentration
This program offers preparation for both the professional music world and doctoral study. Students are encouraged to find their own compositional voices, as well as discovering and studying old and new sounds and aesthetics.
MA in Music, Music Education Concentration
The MA in Music Education program, led by an experienced and nationally recognized faculty, offers a comprehensive course of study for music teachers in all levels and specializations.
MA in Music, Music Therapy Concentration
The Master of Arts (MA) in Music: Concentration in Music Therapy program offers a 40.5 credit combination of supportive psychology and research courses, including courses in assessment, clinical improvisation techniques, group music therapy (experiential and client centered), and teaching and supervision.

Advanced Certificate in Music Teaching
The John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University is pleased to offer a special advanced certificate program for K-12 music teachers. Courses are specifically designed with today’s music educator in mind, offering a thoughtful blend of theory and practice.
Instructional Certification – Subject Area Certification (Preschool – Grade 12)
Students with a baccalaureate degree and an interest in teaching may pursue the post-baccalaureate program for certification. Alternatively, the Master of Arts in Teaching is available for candidates who are interested in attaining the Master of Arts with music teaching certification for public schools.
