The African American Studies minor at Montclair State University is a perfect complement to any undergraduate major. In this interdisciplinary program, students examine the contributions people of African descent have made to human and world history. Courses critically analyze a wide range of philosophies, cultural experiences, social issues, leadership models and solutions to social problems. The program builds on the African American Studies scholar-activist tradition. Students explore education as a means not only for creating personal success but for developing stronger societies rooted in respect for diversity and human rights.

Minor in African American Studies
The African American Studies minor is an 18-credit interdisciplinary program. Foundation courses explore the evolution and theories of African American Studies. Required courses and electives are available across disciplines including the Arts, History, Literature, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Religion and Black Women’s Studies. Most courses also satisfy General Education Requirements.
