Profile

Duke U. Ophori is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Studies, Montclair State University. He is a Geo-Environmental Scientist and Specialist, with extensive experience in the mapping and modeling of large-scale groundwater flow and contaminant transport for application to the solution of environmental problems. He has worked on topics such as the vulnerability of groundwater to pollution in Long Island, New York, USA; hydrogeology of northeastern New Jersey, USA; hydrogeological research to aid in the disposal of nuclear fuel waste in the Canadian Shield, Canada; hydrogeology and hydrochemistry of the Volta Basin, Ghana, Africa; and large-scale groundwater flow in the Niger Delta, Nigeria, Africa. He is also interested in the application of hydrogeological principles and techniques to petroleum exploration and environmental pollution in the Niger Delta, Nigeria. In the past, he worked as a hydrogeological consultant to both the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Ontario, and Alberta Environment, Alberta, Canada. He was a Research Scientist with the Nuclear Fuel Waste Management Program of the Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), Canada, from 1989 to 1995. From 2007 to 2010, he was the Chairperson of the Department of Earth and Environmental Studies, Montclair State University, Upper Montclair, New Jersey, USA.
