Dr. Becky Ofrane is an Assistant Professor of Public Health in the College for Community Health. Her teaching and research focuses on reproductive health and birth equity, data-driven policy and social drivers of health in NJ and the U.S. Dr. Ofrane was the 2024 recipient of the Effective Practice Award from the American Public Health Association Maternal and Child Health Section, which honors individuals whose work has made a significant contribution to effective public health practice within maternal and child health at the community, state, tribal, national or global levels.
Dr. Ofrane has worked in public health practice for nearly 20 years, and was previously the Executive Director of Maternal and Child Health Services at the NJ Department of Health, Co-Director of the City Health Dashboard program at NYU Langone School of Medicine Department of Population Health, and the Children's Environmental Health Coordinator for U.S. EPA Region II.
Having worked in healthcare, federal government, non-profits, and academic medicine, she is passionate about the intersection of research, health service delivery and policymaking. Rebecca has also worked as a full-spectrum doula, and brings that personal lens to her efforts to improve maternal health disparities.
