Profile
Arup Mukherjee's research focuses on analysis and computational methods for fluids with microstructure. In particular, his work investigates how flow properties of liquid crystals and magnetic fluids are affected by external fields. His training is in adaptive finite elements methods for solving partial differential equations and his earlier work involved computation of initial data for the binary black hole problem in general relativity and analysis of heat transport from a heated sphere as it melts its way through a solid medium.
In addition to teaching numerous undergraduate and graduate courses at MSU, Arup Mukherjee has taught Scientific Writing for Engineering Faculty at Tianjin University in China through the Teaching in English program administered by the Global Education Center.
Specialization
Computational analysis of fluids with microstructure; liquid crystal flows; ferro-fluid flow; soft magnetic elastomers
