Specialization

Dr. Matthews is a cardiovascular and exercise physiologist. Many of Dr. Matthews’s studies involve sophisticated equipment to measure various physiological variables (e.g. ultrasound for vascular and cardiac blood flow, near infrared spectroscopy sensors for muscle oxygenation, intravenous catheters for blood sampling, etc.). Recent studies by Dr. Matthews have investigated the impact of muscle contraction and physical activity on cardiovascular parameters like blood pressure and vascular reactivity in healthy young adults, women, and those with a family history of hypertension. I am always recruiting volunteer research assistants and research participants. Please contact me if you are interested.

Volunteer Research Assistants Wanted

I am always looking for volunteer research assistants who are interested in cardiovascular health and physiology. Volunteer research assistants working with me are routinely expected to recruit, screen, and schedule participants. Research assistants would also be expected to show strong initiative to independently learn research skills and protocols and have time to commit to the research process. With my advisement, it would be encouraged that you become the lead researcher on at least one study. Students who work on my projects get a one-on-one learning experience well beyond what a typical student receives. If interested contact me via email.
