Profile

Dr. Mousumi Bose (she/her/hers) is a faculty member in the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at Montclair State University. Her research interests are focused on the understanding the needs of communities affected by rare diseases. This includes conducting dietary assessments, determining the impact of rare diseases on overall quality of life, addressing healthcare disparities within the rare disease community, and evaluating caregiver burden. In 2021, Dr. Bose co-authored a guidebook for caregivers of patients with rare diseases and recently co-authored a national policy report entitled "Caregiving in a Diverse America: Beginning to Understand The Systemic Challenges Facing Family Caregivers". Dr. Bose's research has also been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals including Cells, Journal of Child Neurology, Genetics in Medicine, Molecular Genetics and Metabolism, and MGM Reports. Prior to joining the faculty at Montclair State University, Dr. Bose studied hormonal changes after bariatric surgery as part of her postdoctoral research and how food components, such as green tea polyphenols, affects risk for chronic disease in rodent models as part of her graduate studies.
