Profile

Enza Antenos is the Director of the BA in Language, Business & Culture and Associate Professor of Italian (Dept. of World Languages and Cultures) at Montclair State University. She was a principal collaborator in the development of the interdisciplinary major, Language, Business & Culture (LBC), launched in 2019 and offered by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Feliciano School of Business.

Dr. Antenos has presented at numerous national and international conferences, both in-person and virtual, on topics related to curricular innovation. Her publications encompass areas of inquiry such as acquisition of elementary Italian, the professional preparation of Italian teachers, and the innovative cross-unit major, LBC. Her recent publications are interdisciplinary and focus on digital literacy in language education, through the integration of social media, online collaboration, and artificial intelligence. Moreover, she expounds the development of global skills through language and culture for career-readiness. She is also the architect (together with the Coccia Institute) and chair of Montclair State's signature professional development program, Teaching Italian, now in its 17th year.

Her scholarly agenda centers on curricular development of languages for specific purposes, with ancillary research on experiential learning through professional experiences such as internships, interdisciplinary projects, and cooperative education programs. These initiatives support authentic learning scenarios but also create and build synergies between the university and target-language communities, both locally and internationally. Dr. Antenos has also directed faculty-led study abroad programs in Italy (Florence, Perugia, Modena) and Morocco (Rabat).

A strong advocate of Italian Studies nationwide, she served two terms as the Secretary/Treasurer of the American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI) and is actively involved with the Joint National Committee for Languages (JNCL-NCLIS) contributing to policy recommendations for and promotion of languages nationally. She has received several awards, including the AATI Distinguished Service Award for Colleges/Universities and the Italian Language Foundation Teacher Recognition Award.

Additionally, Dr. Antenos is also a summer instructor and serves as the Teaching and Curriculum Coordinator of Middlebury College Language Schools "Scuola italiana".
