Profile
Christine Giancatarino has worked in various capacities as a writing instructor and theater practitioner creating, performing, and dramaturging theater work. She is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (a form of somatic education) and her writing pedagogy focuses on embodied inquiry and somatic awareness in the writing process. Her theater interests include the dramaturgy of the body in performance, somatic inquiry in training, and devised/ensemble based performance. Her interests have allowed her to partake in workshops with Julian Boal, Phillip Zarrilli, the SITI Company, and the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards. She has presented somatic workshops at the LMDA “Crossing Borders” conference and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, and presented as a panelist on writing pedagogy at the CCCC North and New Jersey Writing Alliance Regional conferences. In addition to her theater work, she has taught English in southern Japan and has worked at non-profits, including the Institute of International Education, in New York City. She received her BA in English with a minor in Theater from Franklin & Marshall College and her MFA in Theater (Dramaturgy) from Columbia University.
