Profile

Antonella Calarota-Ninman is the Spanish language coordinator and an instructional specialist in Spanish at Montclair State University. She earned her B.A. in Foreign Languages at the University of Siena, Italy, a B.A. in Hispanic studies at the University of Granada, Spain, and received her Ph.D. at the University of Madrid (UNED) in Latin American literature.

She teaches Spanish at all levels, as well as courses of Culture, Spanish for Heritage Speakers and Literature and she created the first online program for Spanish language courses.
Dr. Calarota-Ninman designed the Spanish for specific purposes program for the department and is the director of the Communicative Workshops program for Spanish 101 and 102 in-person courses.
Since 2023, she established connections with various Hispanic indigenous leaders and organized on-campus cultural events in collaboration with them.
In 2022, Dr. Calarota-Ninman founded, along with 4 more faculty from different departments, HOLA (Historia Oral de los Latinos y Archivo digital), the first Oral History for Latino communities program in the the university.

Her interests include Latin American literature during the Modernism period, online teaching resources, the use of technology in education, and Digital Humanities. She is also dedicated to preserving the languages and cultures of indigenous communities in Latin America and fostering cultural connections for heritage Spanish learners.
